The Butterfly Effect is a scientific theory that essentially says that a small change at one place in a complex system can have large effects elsewhere. In more personal,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], human terminology,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we need to understand that no matter where we are as people today, we arrived at this point as a result of the actions and events that occurred during our lives. Some we are responsible for...some we are not. We are all products of our environment and thus our present and future environment is determined by the how, what, where, when and why we do things and by the things that others people and other environments might do to us. When we choose any particular action, we inadvertently set a series of future events into motion. That is not to say that we have no choice in our destiny,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], only that everything we have experienced to this point in our lives is responsible for our present condition. “So what?” you might ask.
Do you regret your past? Do you worry about your future? Do you dislike your present situation? You cannot change the past but you can do something about the future. Negativity is seldom ever forgotten completely by those who witness it. Just as negativity can harm you, positivity can help you. Think about that the next time you choose to do something that you know might have negative connotations. Remember it the next time you decide to overlook or condone the negative actions of others. Before you choose to associate with people you know to be of negative character ask yourself if you can avoid or escape from the influence of their negativity. It is up to you to choose which actions you should put into motion in order to create the life you desire.
Don’t regret your past and do not the lament the things you did not do that you might be wishing you had done. It is too late for that. Finally, children inevitably leave the nest. Maybe they are leaving for college (an intermediate step) and/or moving out on their own. I recently read an editorial in Philadelphia Magazine about parents demanding too little from their children. The author opined “we have caved in to the foolish idea that being a good parent means being nice to our children, and making their youths as pleasant and free of stress as possible. We want them to win at everything, from dodge ball…to grades, no matter if they’re lousy on the playground or lazy in the classroom.” I agree with the sentiment that modern parents are often too concerned with protecting their children from the sometimes-unpleasant realities of life; and in 38 years of practice, have seen the consequences of these good intentions play out in every conceivable way. As children grow up and go out on their own; bosses, coworkers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], spouses (to an extent) and others they will have contact with may no longer put your child’s happiness and self-esteem high on their agenda. And happy or not, this is a huge wakeup call for which many children are not yet ready.
Parents can prevent their children from having a rude awaking by taking into account the child’s developmental level when balancing nurturing and limit setting. This way, by the time children leave home, they will be much better able to face the world with confidence and competence. They go back to their life, maybe a little richer, I'd like to think wiser, but when the pressures of life come back, and no one is there to help through the day-to-day challenges, it breaks my heart.
I don't know about you, but my hunch is that you know someone that would risk the reputation of someone else so they could make themselves look better. It has never been more apparent than on the recent episode of, The Biggest Loser.
Not only did 1 contestant head to the hospital, but 2 contestants. I don't watch the show,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I refuse to, but I have clients fill me in and I read the recap on various websites. I can't stomach watching the trainers week after week not only tainting the reputation of qualified trainers, but risking the health of the contestants.

What these contestants are put through (I don't care who is behind the scenes) is without question irresponsible and may risk death or permanent disability. Having someone that weighs over 300 pounds running through sand is insane. I'm fit and that's tough,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], what's the point? What are they trying to prove?
Watching people go from morbidly obese, depressed, energy zapped to high energy, happy and hopeful is inspiring, I understand that. But what continues to frustrate me is the fact that once these folks leave the show, they have to go back to their real lives, no trainers, no cooks, no doctors, no psychologists,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], nada, zip. How inspiring is that?
I must admit, some of my clients say they're inspired when they see these contestants participate in outrageous challenges. They tell me it shows that heavy people CAN overcome and can be active. For me, I'd rather see someone inspire me that is doing something a bit more practical and less life threatening. Not only because it's smart, but if people are watching it, they can actually go out and do it. How many obese people watching the show are going to run a mile in sand?
I don't know,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I'm growing tired of the show and of the trainers that treat the contestants in a manner that I would never dream of treating my clients. But it's entertainment and people are desperate for two things,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], weight loss and entertainment. Then and only then will the name "The Biggest Loser" really ring true.
These folks go back to their life, few if any are ever thought of again, unless they've got someone willing to throw cash at them and market them with books, etc. But for most of them, they go back to their "old" lives, making their own meals, going to work every day and adjusting to the natural stresses and challenges that come with life. Their 6-8 hours a day of exercising are over. The days of carefully prepared meals by someone else, gone. The tough days that naturally come with weight loss are no longer supported by a therapist or trainer, that's gone too. So what's left? Just their experience and their day-to-day struggle to keep their weight off. To be honest, I'd LOVE the idea of the show if there was a strong history of long-term success by these contestants,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but there's not.
I get it,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], contestants are losing weight, a lot of weight and it's inspiring, right? But to what end? My last post I discussed the contestants that gain weight back after the show ends. A pustule or papule with a central hair is the primary lesion in folliculitis. Secondary lesions evolve from ruptured pustules and may consist of erosions, crusts, and darkly pigmented macules. FACTORS

Nonbacterial, or sterile, folliculitis can arise from physical or chemical irritation. Such irritants include leg waxing, leg shaving, axillary shaving, and hair plucking. Chemical depilatories, electrolysis, occlusive dressings, and excessive sweating can also contribute to this problem,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as can wear tight jeans. Nonbacterial folliculitis may also be related to working conditions, such as the use of greases or oils,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and to the application of various cosmetics.
